Salmonella Outbreak Causes Illness in Over 95 People Linked to Recalled Eggs

Over 95 people across 14 states have fallen ill due to a salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs from Country Eggs LLC. Learn about the symptoms and safety measures.
A recent salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 95 individuals across 14 states in the United States, with health officials linking the illnesses to specific recalled eggs. The implicated eggs were produced by Country Eggs LLC, a company based in Lucerne Valley, California. The FDA has issued a recall for their large, cage-free "sunshine yolks" and "omega-3 golden yolks" eggs after an investigation traced the source of contamination. These eggs, sold under brands such as Nagatoshi Produce, Mishuo, and Nijiya Markets, were packaged with the code CA 7695 and had sell-by dates ranging from July 1 to September 16.
The outbreak investigations revealed that the reported illnesses began between January 7 and July 25, 2025, with 18 cases resulting in hospitalizations as of the latest update. Since these eggs may have been distributed to additional locations, the actual number of affected individuals could be higher. The CDC and FDA are cautioning consumers to check their refrigerators and discard any eggs matching these descriptions or return them for refunds.
Salmonella infection symptoms include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, dehydration, and abdominal cramps, according to the Mayo Clinic. While most individuals recover within a week, vulnerable populations such as young children, older adults, and immunocompromised persons face higher risks of severe illness and hospitalization.
The FDA's investigation involved tracking consumer reports of egg purchases, which led to identifying Country Eggs LLC as the outbreak source. Public health authorities emphasize the importance of proper food handling and awareness of recalled products to prevent further cases. For more detailed information on salmonella, the Mayo Clinic provides extensive resources.
Consumers are advised to stay vigilant regarding food safety alerts and adhere to recall notices to protect their health.
