Kroger Issues Recall of Pasta Salads in 30 States Due to Listeria Risk

Kroger has announced a voluntary recall of two types of pasta salad bowls sold across nearly 30 states after discovering potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria known to cause serious infections. The affected products include Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad, which were available for purchase between August 29 and October 2 in approximately 1,860 Kroger-affiliated stores, including brands like Baker's, City Market, Dillons, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Ralphs, and King Soopers.

The recall was issued after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified that the contaminated salads were made using pasta produced by Nate's Fine Foods based in Roseville, California. The salads were distributed in a broad range of states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia.

Listeria infections can present symptoms such as fever, headaches, muscle aches, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures. Certain populations including pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and immunocompromised persons are at higher risk. In severe cases, the infection may result in miscarriage, serious illness, or death.

Consumers who purchased these salads are advised not to consume them and to return the products to the point of purchase for a refund. The FDA emphasizes the importance of disposing of the contaminated products to prevent possible health complications.
