FDA Recalls Chocolate Candies Due to Milk Allergy Concerns

The FDA has issued a voluntary recall of certain chocolate candies due to undeclared milk, posing serious allergy risks. Consumers should check lot numbers to avoid potential health hazards.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of certain chocolate candies sold across the United States because they may contain undeclared milk. This poses a significant allergy risk for individuals with milk allergies, which can lead to severe or potentially life-threatening reactions.
The recalled products are semi-sweet chocolate nonpareils manufactured by Weaver Nut Company, Inc. The recall covers specific lots of two varieties: one with white nonpareils and another with red, green, and white "Christmas seeds." These candies were available at various grocery and retail stores nationwide.
The FDA identified the issue following a complaint from a wholesale customer, which prompted lab testing that confirmed the presence of milk in the candies. Since milk was not listed as an ingredient on the packaging, consumers with milk allergies may unknowingly consume these products, risking adverse health effects.
The recall includes six lots of the Christmas seed variety and 15 lots of the white seed variety. The full list of affected lots is available through the FDA. To date, no injuries or illnesses have been reported, but the manufacturer has issued the recall out of caution.
Angela Nolt, a spokesperson for Weaver Nut Company, stated, "We are working closely with the FDA and are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our products."
Consumers with milk allergies are advised to check the lot numbers listed below and avoid consuming the recalled candies:
- Christmas Seeds (Lot numbers: 204206, 204207, 204208, 204209, 204212, 224225)
- White Seeds (Lot numbers: 204214-RL, 204214, 204215, 224221, 224222, 224223, 135215, 135216, 135217, 135220, 135221, 145204, 145205-1, 145207-1, 145210-1)
For more detailed information and the complete list of affected lots, refer to the official recall notice from the FDA. This recall aims to prevent any health risks to consumers and emphasizes the importance of accurate labeling for food allergens.
