An egg producer based in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, has issued a recall of certain batches of free-range large brown eggs following contamination concerns flagged by federal health authorities. The Black Sheep Egg Company identified that eggs with best-by dates ranging from August 22 through October 31, 2025, are affected. The recall includes 12-count and 18-count cartons, which were distributed within Arkansas and Missouri from July 9 to September 17.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted inspections at the processing facility and discovered 40 samples containing salmonella bacteria, with seven different strains identified. While none of these strains has been linked to an ongoing outbreak, the presence of salmonella poses a significant health threat.

Consumers are advised not to consume, serve, or sell the affected eggs. The recalled eggs can be discarded or returned to the point of purchase. Two UPC codes are associated with the affected products: 860010568507 and 860010568538.

Salmonella infection symptoms typically develop within 12 to 72 hours after ingestion and include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, usually lasting about a week. Vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at increased risk of severe illness.

The recall underscores the importance of proper food safety practices in egg production and processing. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed and check for specific best-by dates and UPC codes on egg packaging.
