The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued an alert regarding a Salmonella outbreak connected to a specific brand of pistachio cream. The outbreak investigation involves an emerging pattern of infections across two states, linked to Emek-brand pistachio cream, a shelf-stable nut butter-type product widely distributed online to wholesale and foodservice channels nationwide.

Public health officials are actively examining whether this particular batch is still in circulation and if other batches or variations of the product are affected. So far, four individuals have been confirmed to carry the same strain of Salmonella after consuming the pistachio cream. Of these, one person has required hospitalization, but no fatalities have been reported.

The CDC strongly recommends consumers, food sellers, and establishments to avoid purchasing, serving, or ingesting Emek-brand pistachio cream labeled with a use-by date of October 19, 2026, and production code 241019. Additionally, food safety protocols advise thorough disinfection of surfaces and utensils that may have come into contact with the product to prevent further contamination.

Infection with Salmonella typically results in symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, vomiting, stomach cramps, and dehydration. While most infected individuals recover within a week, vulnerable groups including young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals are at greater risk of severe illness. Medical attention may be necessary to manage symptoms and prevent complications.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation and conduct thorough investigations to prevent further cases. Consumers are urged to stay informed and exercise caution when handling products that could be contaminated.
