Recall Issued for Walmart and Kroger Sold Bread Due to Hazelnut Contamination

Walmart and Kroger sell a popular bread brand that has been recalled across multiple states due to undeclared hazelnuts, posing allergy risks. Consumers should check packaging for specific lot codes and return affected products for a refund.
A widely available bread brand sold at Walmart, Kroger, and other grocery stores across multiple states has been voluntarily recalled due to undeclared hazelnuts, which pose a significant allergy risk. Hartford Bakery Inc. is recalling six specific lots of its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style half Loaf bread after discovering potential hazelnut contamination in the product.
Hazelnuts are a tree nut that can cause severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Although no serious health issues have been reported so far, some consumers experienced mild digestive discomfort after consuming the bread. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emphasized the importance of awareness for individuals with hazelnut allergies.
The recalled bread was sold in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi. Consumers are advised to check their packages for the following lot codes: T10 174010206, T10 174010306, T10 174010406, T10 174020206, T10 174020306, and T10 174020406. The packaging states "May Contain Tree Nuts" but does not specify hazelnuts specifically, which was identified as a packaging error during an internal investigation.
Each affected loaf weighs 12 ounces (340 grams), with an expiration date of July 13, 2025, and UPC code 24126018152. Approximately 883 loaves are impacted by this recall.
Customers who purchased these products are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. The company issued this recall out of an abundance of caution to prevent any allergic reactions.
Symptoms of hazelnut allergy reactions can range from mild swelling or itching in the mouth and lips to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis. Consumers with nut allergies are advised to remain vigilant and seek medical help if any adverse symptoms occur.
For further details, the recall notice and updates can be found on the FDA website.
