Recent analysis from the CDC indicates a positive trend in adolescent vaccinations between 2023 and 2024. Coverage for the tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) increased from 89.0% to 91.3%, while the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) coverage rose from 88.4% to 90.1%. Despite these improvements, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates remained stable, with 78.2% of teens having received at least one dose and 62.9% being fully up to date. These vaccination rates varied across different regions, with 39 states achieving ≥90% coverage for Tdap and 30 states for MenACWY, whereas only 26 states and the District of Columbia had HPV coverage above 80%. Notably, lower HPV vaccination coverage persisted in nonmetropolitan areas compared to metropolitan principal cities. Experts emphasize the importance of collaborations between health authorities and healthcare providers to enhance vaccine access and improve coverage among adolescents, particularly in underserved communities. The findings are based on data from the 2024 National Immunization Survey-Teen, which included responses from over 16,000 adolescents aged 13 to 17. This progress reflects ongoing efforts to protect teens from preventable diseases and highlights areas for targeted intervention to narrow vaccination gaps.
