A Minnesota-based food company, Sno Pac Foods, has announced a recall of two organic frozen spinach products sold throughout the United States. This recall was initiated after detecting potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that poses serious health risks, especially to vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The affected products include the Del Mar 35-pound Bulk Organic Frozen Spinach, identified by lot codes 250107A, 250107B, 250107C, 250107D, 2501071, and 2501073, with an expiration date of January 7, 2027. The other product is Sno Pac's 10-ounce Organic Frozen Cut Spinach, with lot codes SPM1.190.5 (best by July 9, 2027), SPC1.160.5 (best by June 9, 2027), SPC2.160.5 (best by June 9, 2027), and SPM1.097.5 (best by April 7, 2027).

Distribution of these frozen spinach products was nationwide via retail stores and distributors. Consumers who have purchased these items are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should dispose of the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. The production has been suspended as the company continues to investigate the contamination source.

According to the FDA, there have been no reported illnesses so far. However, Listeria infection can cause severe health complications, particularly in vulnerable groups, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening conditions. Symptoms in healthy individuals typically include fever, nausea, headache, muscle aches, stomach pain, and diarrhea.

For questions or concerns, consumers can contact Sno Pac Foods on weekdays at 507-725-5281. The CDC provides additional information about Listeria and its health impacts at https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/about/index.html.

This recall underscores the importance of food safety practices and vigilant inspection processes to prevent contaminated products from reaching consumers.
