For the first time, individuals can receive their annual flu vaccination from the comfort of their own homes thanks to the new at-home nasal spray flu vaccine. The product, FluMist, developed by AstraZeneca, has received expanded approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be self-administered, making the vaccination process more convenient and accessible.
FluMist is a nasal spray designed to protect against influenza and has been available in clinics and pharmacies since its initial approval in 2003. The recent FDA approval allows consumers to order the vaccine directly online through a service called FluMist Home, which distributes the nasal spray to homes in 34 states during the 2025–2026 flu season. The vaccine is suitable for individuals aged 2 to 49, with caregivers recommended to administer it to children aged 2 to 17.
To utilize the service, customers must provide personal details, including medical history, insurance information, and payment. The cost of the vaccine is generally covered by most commercial insurance plans, with a shipping and processing fee of $8.99.
